Neptune's Pollywogs is a Queer Rock Musical written and directed in collaboration with Leone Anne Reeves. Utilizing devices from musical theater, we investigated our notions of gender performativity and criticized our own critique of heteronormativity. Drawing from a vast pool of sources, we designed our set/costumes/movements/text from Judith Butler's Gender Trouble, the field of Cryptozoology, Guy Debord's Society of the Spectacle, Abercrombie and Fitch and love stories from our very own sordid pasts. Spectators experienced: a broken narrative, a Werewolf Vagina, a Mr./Mrs. Potato Head Anus, a cast of sea creatures and cowboys, hardcore dancing and a glittered set that could barely stand on its own.

Five performers dance five sections of a home. A boy tiles himself through the city. An agoraphobic implement artist gives us Bette Davis at her worst. A love letter to Ginger Rogers is danced in the flooring section of Ikea. A woman exorcises dust mites from her room. We began with a simple prompt: Dance a Mobile Home. We’ve used found text from craigslist, recycled building materials from San Francisco houses and secrets from our sordid pasts to build our performance. Audience members will see us dance our home, in five parts, in 45 minutes.

Prompt # 7
Carolyn, an elderly Japanese woman, hides in accountant’s closet for eleven months.
Create a two minute soundscape in response to the image and prompt above. The soundscape should include five distinct sounds found in your home. Consider: ghost hunting, Victorian spiritualist séance and construction sites.

Through workshops, play and conversations about the anus, we arrived at a piece that included: movement, a broken narrative, a spelling bee, a tableaux vivant and a sexual act.

Anal Foreclosure is part demolition part exorcism. From below ground up we’ve built a space through which the audience will tour, much like a model home. After excavating the multitudes of sentiment surrounding legalized gay marriage in California, we have found the following: foreclosure party games, sequenced anal ghosts, the master’s bedroom, bathroom dances and anal divinations. We speak through games; committing our selves to win, fail or simply walk away. Through this we’ve found new possibilities for addressing the mundane failures of everyday relationships as well as those not-yet languaged. Anal Foreclosure utilizes counter-ergonomics such as piles, messes and aggregation to flesh out our relationship to space and to (re)imagine the family house for those families not-yet but soon imagined.

"When the sirens were deafening and
those lights caused us to retract,
I grabbed your hand and tapped in your
palm the following: If these are the last
words, for us, then let them be: fuck fried
bawling trespass uprise intervene glorified
excess liberated hypocritical tragedy
under over highfive lowfive tonight."
