Growing up in Fresno, I found myself attending one too many hardcore shows. I discovered a dance that, while typically performed solo within a carefully demarcated circle of spectators, contained astounding phrases of synchronized group movement. We we're interested in how to appropriate those movements, re-contextualize them and choreograph a tightly scripted dance that has a loosely contained anarchistic energy. We, like many of those hardcore dancers are not formally trained in vernacular dances. We do, however, teach this dance to mostly everyone and typically offer it as a gift.
